Allen Lee Forbes

ALLEN LEE FORBES – 39, died March 16, 1995 at his home. He was born November 5, 1955 in Bellingham, WA and was a resident of Clark County for 35 years. He worked as a Lead Processor/Auditor for Tecktronix for 16 years. He was President of Northwest Rainbow Alliance for the Deaf a total of 4 years; DSHS Advisory Board Member: TTY Distributor for the State of Washington; President of the Fort Vancouver Association of the Deaf; House Parent at Washington School of the Deaf; named “Outstanding Young Man of America” in 1989; Vice President of DEAF GLOW Organization; one of the Founders of Southwest Washington Center of the Deaf; served on the HIV/AIDS Advisory Board; Graduate of Washington School for the Deaf in 1976; and received Associates Degree in Early Childhood Development from Seattle Community College in 1978. He was preceded in death by his father, L. Rex Forbes in 1981. He is survived by his mother, Bette Lillian Forbes of Bellingham, WA; brother Wiliam and wife Barbara Forbes of Seattle, WA; 1 nephew, 2 nieces, and 2 grand-nieces; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and partner of 10 years, Rick Spencer. A viewing and visitation was held Saturday March 18, 1995 at Hamillton-Mylan Funeral Home in Vancouver from 1:00 P.M until 5:00 P.M. A memorial service will be held Sunday March 19, 1995 at 2:00 P.M. at the Washington School for the Deaf, in the Auditorium, 611 Grand Blvd., Vancouver, WA. Memorials may be made to N.W.R.A.D./Forbes Foundation, 1910 East 33rd St., Vancouver, WA 98663.

Named “Outstanding Young Man of America” in 1989, Allen Lee Forbes, 39, died of AIDS Thursday, March 16, 1995, at home.

Allen graduated from Washington School for the Deaf in 1976 and received an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Development from Seattle Community College in 1978.  Allen was the president of Northwest Rainbow Alliance of the Deaf for four years, president of Fort Vancouver Association of the Deaf, and an advisory board member of the Department of Social and Health Services.  He was also the vice president of DeafGLOW, a founder of Southwest Washington Center of the Deaf, and he served on the HIV/AIDS Advisory Board.

Born November 5, 1955, in Bellingham, Washington, Allen lived in Vancouver and had been a resident of Clark County for 35 years.  He was a lead processor and auditor at Tektronix for 16 years.

Allen was preceded in death by his father, L. Rex Forbes in 1981.  He is survived by his mother, Better Lillian Forbes of Bellingham, Washington, his brother and sister-in-law William and Barbara of Seattle, Washington, one nephew, two nieces, two grand-nieces, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, a beloved pet, Samantha and his special companion and partner of ten years, Rick Spencer.

James T. Sharer

On Monday, December 10, 2007 at 12:55 James T. Sharer Finally was reunited with his brothers and mother at the age of 43. He was born September 24, 1964 in Dallas to the late Polly Jean Pringle Sharer and Jack B. Sharer. He was a lifelong Dallas resident. Jim attended the National Institute for the Deaf in Rochester, NY. He worked for the Sorenson Company as a regional manager.

Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Polly Sharer; and by his three brothers, Tommy, Jack Jr., and Robert Sharer. His is survived by his father, Jack B. Sharer of Dallas; uncle, David Sharer of Texarkana; nephew, Eryk Sharer and wife, Michelle; and two great-nephews.

Charles David Carter

Charles David Carter, 53 years, died peacefully at home in San Diego, CA on March 21, 2009. He was born in Rotan, Fisher County, Texas to Grover C. Carter and Mary Ruth Carter on October 1, 1955. He attended Texas School for the Deaf in Austin, Texas and Harrison Chillhowee Baptist Academy in Knoxville, Tennessee.

He spend most of his youth in Dallas Texas where he worked for Haggar Corporation and performed as an actor in a number of plays for national and local theatre of the deaf.

He moved to Los Angeles in 1990 and worked at the AIDS Education of the Deaf for the Greater Los Angeles Agency on Deafness. Later he was employed as a Residential Property Manager for 17 years. He served on Los Angeles County Commission on HIV and was an American Sign Language Instructor for Disability Rights Legal Center (DRLC). Last year, he relocated to San Diego where he became a supporter of the Youth Housing Project through SDLBGT Community Center and Deaf Services Center of San Diego.

He was preceded in death by his father Grover C. Carter, a survivor of the sinking of USS Indianapolis C-35 on July 30, 1945. He is survived by his loving daughter Kami Jennifer Carter and her partner Beth of Kamuela, Hawaii; his mother Mary Ruth; stepfather Carl Tucker; sister Gwen White and husband Mike; nephews, Sean and Kyle White and families of Dallas, Texas; cousin Robert Carter of Houston, Texas; and a large extended family. Charles leaves loving friends; David, Andrew, Angela, Billy, Byron, Christina, Jim, Kevin, Richard, Roxanne, Shari, Scott, Tim, Vicki, and countless close friends across the country.

Michael P. Felts

Michael Paul Felts died at his home in Washington, DC on November 16, 1996 after a long battle with AIDS.  He was 40 years old.

Felts co-founded Deaf AIDS Action (Washington, DC).  In 1987, he co-founded the nation’s first deaf HIV prevention program in Dallas, Texas.  He was chairman of several major conferences including the Rainbow Alliance of the Deaf International Convention (Dallas, 1991) and the National Conference on Deafness and AIDS (Los Angeles, 1993).  He received special recognition from Texas Governor Ann Richards in 1991 for his tireless efforts in HIV/AIDS prevention and services.  He continued his HIV/AIDS advocacy at demonstrations and in meetings of the White House Committee on the Deaf Community and AIDS.

Felts was born August 20, 1956 in Lancashire County, England.  He lived in Bermuda, Santa Cruz, Calif., Seattle, Wash., Dallas, Texas, and the District of Columbia.  Felts graduated from Washington State School for the Deaf in 1977.  He earned a bachelors degree at Gallaudet University in 1982, and later completed a masters degree in communications.

He was a member of the Metropolitan Community Church and the Metropolitan Washington Regional HIV Services Planning Council.  His involvement in AIDS activism was matched by his passion for theater and local politics.

Felts is preceded in death by his father, Walter Earl Felts.  Survivors include his mother and step father, Greta and John Brown of Post Falls, Idaho, brothers and sisters, and longtime friends Marc Lerro and Bill Terrell of Washington, DC.

Rosa Delgado Dunn

Rosa Delgado Dunn was born in Havana, Cuba on January 21, 2954.  She defected to the United States, with her family, when she was approximately 10 years old.  She lived in Florida, before relocating to Southern California.  Rosa passed away from AIDS on November 15, 2005.  She is survived by her two children, JoAnn Dunn Schaub and Bobby Delgado.  She is also survived by her mother, Oria Delgado, brother Vicente Delgado, and her granddaughter, Carina Rosa Schaub.  JoAnn Dunn Schaub has walked in the San Diego AIDS Walk for four years: 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, to honor her mother, and fundraise for AIDS related services, and research.  Rosa is loved and missed every single day.

Harold Barbee

Harold was my brother.  He was born on October 27, 1960 in Houston, Texas.  He died in October 1992 at the University Hospital in Shreveport, LA.  He was the third child of five and was the only deaf person in the family.  He hated having AIDS.  He is missed.

Archie St. Cyr

Archie St. Cyr, who was also known as “Snookie”, was born on November 9, 1953 and died on March 13, 1994 due to AIDS.

Archie graduated Clark school in the year of 1972 and then later attended NTID in 1975 and graduated there in 1979.

Archie has two beautiful children, Andrew St. Cyr and Carrie St. Cyr.

Donald Maynard Jr.

Donald Gene Maynard Jr., 38, of Holland, went to be with his Savior after a lengthy illness on Tuesday, September 30, 2008.

Don was born December 22, 1969 in Holland, Michigan.  In 1988, he graduated from the Michigan School for the Deaf.  Don was a loving boy that grew into a very caring and gentle man. He is survived by his mother and step-father, Laura Lynn and James Boullosa; his father, Donald G. Maynard Sr.; brothers, Ron and Sherry Vande Berg, William Vande Berg; sisters,  Nancy and Curtis Lyon, Nicole Boullosa; grandmothers, Georgine Duncan and Betty Batey; several nephews, aunts and uncles.

A memorial service in Don’s honor was held on Friday, October 3, 2008 at the Notier-Ver Lee-Langeland Funeral Chapel, 315 E. 16th Street, Holland.  Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Holland.

Tobias Tribble III

Tobias Tribble, III, died on  April 30, 2008, of AIDS-related complications and kidney failure. Tobias died a few days after his 49th birthday. Tobias had been a client of the Deaf AIDS Project in Sylvan, Michigan since 2005. Tobias was hard of hearing. Tobias had recently returned from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he resided for about four months. Tobias returned to Detroit when it was discovered he was diagnosed with cancer, and he was too weak to care for himself. Tobias previously worked in Washington, DC, as a junior accountant. He is survived by his mother, father, sisters, and other relatives and friends.
